Wayne Lee glides beneath the fashion radar as stealthily as a falcon, so it only makes sense that the designer chose the bird of prey as a jumping off point for her fierce and focused spring collection. In the way of Ann Demeulemeester, Lee took to layering loose, asymmetrically cut fabrics in austere monochrome palettes: black, white, sand, bone and sky blue — the last of which came by way of silk imprinted with a rope snake motif conceived with the help of artist Benjamin Degen.
There were no frills here, yet still, Wayne Lee succeeded in outfitting her woman in a way that was both smart and sexy, hard and soft, masculin and féminin. Who says you need a sequined bandage skirt and F-me pumps for a night on the town? Try a matte tuxedo dress and brogues.
