Zoo streams April the Giraffe as she delivers another calf
It’s a calf for mama giraffe!
Internet star April the Giraffe gave birth live for the second time on Youtube Saturday.
The long-necked mama went into labor after 11 a.m. Saturday morning, and gave birth shortly before 1 p.m. at Animal Adventure Park in upstate Harpursville, NY.The zoo alerted April’s many fans to the big news through a text notification and Facebook post.
April became a viral sensation in 2017, when Animal Adventure created a live stream to track the progress of the 18-foot-tall pregnant giraffe.
While over 300,000 people watched April welcome her new calf Saturday morning, it doesn’t compare to the 1.2 million viewers who watched the birth of son Tajiri two years ago.
The new baby, also a boy, is April’s fifth offspring.
Park officials say the newborn giraffe was on its feet by 1:27 p.m., and nursing by 1:51 p.m.
The 17-year-old’s latest pregnancy was announced last July.
On March 8, park owner Jordan Patch Park said April’s delivery was “imminent.”
Animal Adventure said that the newborn will be named through an online voting contest, just like brother Tajiri was, according to USA Today.
