Influencers have taken over the big screen, whether on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram. Who to follow next? Eva Gutowski, a lifestyle YouTuber with nine years under her belt, 11.4M subscribers and a brand-new skincare line.
The Orange County-based creator recently launched Coastal Citizen, rooted in her search for multi-functional, effective and uncomplicated products to care for her sensitive skin.
Lo and behold, she worked with labs to formulate Morning Water ($28) to wake up the skin, remove makeup strip-free and leave it feeling balanced. For a sustainable removing tool, she curated the Bamboo Terry Towels ($17) that won’t stain or look messy on your bathroom counter due to their black color.
“My audience has seen me struggle with my skin for a young age, and it’s cool to be a beacon of light of skincare struggles,” Gutowski, 27, told The Post. “I’ve tried everything to see a difference in my skin and achieve the golden recipe for my skin — and I did it with my new brand.”
Alongside her new lab-tested brand, she adores encouraging her audience to try new things. In fact, her YouTube channel started as an aside from one of her dreams to be on the big screen.
“I went to college for broadcast journalism because my dream was to have a talk show like Oprah to help people,” she said. “I started my YouTube channel to get better at public speaking for my school classes and suddenly found myself with a growing audience, soon realizing I have my own mini-version of Oprah going on here.”
And, helping her audience isn’t on the backburner. The centerpiece of her channel is to encourage others to try new things, much like she learned to do in the nine years and counting of filming and editing content.
“I started my YouTube channel to get better at public speaking and suddenly found myself with a growing audience, soon realizing I have my own mini-version of Oprah going on here.”
Eva Gutowski
“I always take on new projects I’m excited about, like teaching myself how to skateboard or completely learn music production and put out music,” she shared. “My viewers see me being scared of deep waters in the ocean to surfing massive waves in the most dangerous places. So many people are scared to get out of their comfort zones and put themselves in a box instead, so I encourage my viewers to be more open to trying new things.”
Gutowski takes her advice to heart, always experimenting with new ways of sharing her creativity. One, for example, is how she switches up her videos or presentation style with new trends and lifestyle changes.
“The cool thing about YouTube is learning to adapt with the times,” she said. “If I made the same content, it would be super boring and you wouldn’t want to watch it anymore. But, I don’t stay inside a bubble — whenever my lifestyle or style of editing changed, I didn’t look at my likes or views. I did what I felt was on-brand for me, like cinematic vlogs or a funny video with my friends.”
The inspiration for her content? Her viewers. And, of course, those closest to her.
“My sister and friends are a big source of inspiration for my videos because we all get together and start thinking of the most ridiculous video and TikTok ideas,” she adds. “It’s good to surround myself with people who consume social media content because we can share ideas.”
